RGNIYD on May 09, 2022 celebrated another milestone of achievement by release of the book titled “Child Safety Welfare and Well-being – Issues and Challenges”, Second Edition edited by the Director of RGNIYD Prof. Sibnath Deb which was released by Shri. J. Kabilan, Head Human Resources, Buildings and Factories IC (part of L&T Construction), L& T Chennai today.


Dr. Vasanthi Rajendran, Professor, Centre for Training, Orientation and Capacity Building, RGNIYD provided an introduction of the book to be released. She mentioned that the first edition of “Child Safety Welfare and Well-being” was a highest selling books of all time and had sold over 46,000 copies excluding innumerable online downloads and citations. This demand has necessitated for bringing out the second volume with serves as expedient reference source intertwined with empirical frameworks and practical strategies for the academics, researchers and child development specialists.


The Director, RGNIYD recounted his experiences of editing the volume and presented the current status of child safety, welfare and well-being in the country. He stated that publications of high standards are essential requisites for the faculty in Higher Educational Institutions for the purpose of national and international ranking of the professionals and institutions. He exhorted the faculty of RGNIYD to embark on initiatives for publication of their empirical research works through globally acclaimed publishing companies. He mentioned that the Authorship publication significantly proclaims the works of one or two researchers/authors, an Edited volume is a compendium of paradigms and interpretations of highly accomplished team of contributing authors which provides wide-spread knowledge on a theme of central focus. This way, the edited book released today is exceptional in providing established applied interventional strategies to deal with child safety and welfare issues.      


Published by Springer, the book provides focused and comprehensive overview of the status of children across society, with special reference to emerging features and measures of child safety, welfare and overall well-being. The book has four segments covering multi-faceted dimensions of child welfare and well-being. This second edition comprises contributions of highly experienced academics, researchers, child rights activists and policy makers from both developed and developing countries on imperative concerns such as status of children living under institutional care; sexual abuse of male children and tribal girl children; issues and challenges faced by children living in conflict zones; children living on the streets; COVID-19 and its impact on the education of children. The status of marginalized children gets special attention in this second edition.
